Link Building in Social Networking Sites

by admin on Oct.16, 2009, under Social Networks

Link building is crucial for successful Internet marketing. Links are great for pointing readers and potential customers to your site.  It is important to get quality links and not just from some link farms.

Since Google has pushed the use of “no-follow” attributes in pages where a reader could leave links and trackbacks, “link building” has never been the same. In a nutshell, link building is leaving your site’s “footprint” in cyberspace. It used to be that anyone could comment or spam comment in a forum or blog and happily leave a link routed to his site. A link, by the way, that would count towards your page rank and search engine rank.  Not anymore though. If you want to build links, you now have to hop from one blog to another and ask the blog admin for an exchange links deal. This works, but really, the task is quite tedious.

One fun way to build links is by joining social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. You can connect with other users and increase traffic to your site. How? Well, a link attached to your profile is one. Writing a “status” in your account with a hyperlink to your site is two. Twittering every so often with an attached link to your site is three. Writing a short post in your social networking site with a link to your site or blog is four. If you have hundreds or even thousands of contacts in your social networking sites, imagine the potential number of back links you can have. Using this kind of link building is quite safe and effective. Search engines “love” this kind of links!

If you are one heck of a writer, you can try joining sites like HubPages, BlogCatalog or Squidoo and submit a post or two with a link to your site. You can try submitting relevant articles to Blog Carnivals and other Ezines for you to gain exposure and backlinks too.

Submit your sites to online directories. This is one sure way of getting linked. There are thousands of directories out there.  Start getting linked!
