How Many Domains Do You Need?

You’ve set up your web site. You think you’ve done all the SEO you need to start off on the right foot. But did you know there’s something else you could be doing?
One of the newer methods of increasing your exposure to an online audience is using multiple domains. For example, if you sell stationery products online then you might have one domain focused on wedding invitations and another site geared towards holiday cards or birth announcements. Each domain, obviously, has its own content and name.
Why go to the trouble of setting up separate domains? You might be surprised by the advantages. Let’s start with directories. These can be a great source of traffic for your site but since they only take the home page you would normally be limited in exposure. With multiple domains, you can be listed over and over again.
Search engines aren’t much better. Typically, no more than two of your site’s pages will appear in the results. With multiple domains, you’ll have a better chance of getting more of your content seen by users. That’s definitely a positive.
But are there any other advantages? You can use the multiple domains to focus in on an even smaller niche. For example, the same audience that might look for religious cards might not be the same folks who are in the market for Mardi Gras party invitations. By dividing your content, you can conquer a larger number of visitors.
Don’t listen to the argument that your domains will be competing against one another either. If you choose different keywords for the optimization, that won’t be the case. Even if more than one of your domains do show up in the results, that just increases your chances of closing a deal.
Registering domain names is affordable and most hosting services let you host multiple domains through a single account which simplifies your life. So give this tip a try and see if the results pan out for you, too.
